Treasure Valley Hunting Retriever Club

The Blaine and Judy Hyde Out Standing Retriever Award

The Blaine and Judy Hyde Outstanding Retriever Award

Tribute to Blaine and Judy Hyde:

Blaine and Judy Hyde were founding members of the Treasure Valley Hunting Retriever Club as well as dedicated members who served on the Board of Directors and so much more! They helped at training days and found grounds to hold events and assisted in maintaining the grounds. Both Blaine and Judy had a love for the sport but also a passion to see people succeed. The Hyde’s are some of the nicest people you could ever meet, they were always willing to give. Humility and passion are two words that come to mind when I think of these two.

So, with the assistance of Larry Hill and George Rodgers we have an award to help honor the legacy of this two, fine individuals!

Characteristics for nominations:

2022 Winner:

HRCH Regina’s Lil Bit of Swagger MH - Moxie

Blaine and Judy were some of the first people that Shannon and I met when we moved to Idaho in 2013 from the dog community.  They both greeted us with open arms as they have done with so many before us and after.  They both shared a passion for our sport and were so helpful to many not only with the dogs but life in general, their compassion, grace and helpfulness was felt and is missed everyday!

Moxie was just 3 years old when her performance earned her this award, she had earned both her UKC Hunting Retriever Champion and AKC Master Hunter titles throughout the 2022 testing season.  She has proven to be a great waterfowl dog as well has become a very proficient upland hunting dog as well.  Moxie is a fun loving goofy dog most days which is the side most rarely get to see, they see her incredible work ethic, hard charging, eager to learn and please and most of all what an awesome Team player she is.

I was so fortunate to have received this award the first year as Blaine was able to present this award to Moxie and Myself, it was extremely emotional for Shannon and I due to the nature of the award.

We will do our best to be good stewards and continue the legacy of helping others as Blaine and Judy have done for so many like us.

2023 Winner:

CRB'S Good Trade - Trade

I met Blaine at a training day some years ago, even before I had Trade.  We talked about dogs in general and I could tell by the conversation that he was passionate and extremely knowledgeable about retrievers. I never had the pleasure to meet Judy, although I wish I had based on everything I’ve heard from many folks that knew her. I would make sure I said hello to Blaine every time I saw him, he was a genuinely pleasant gentleman. I remember at a test in Salt Lake several years back, Blaine, Dave Snider and I were all hanging out and Blaine made the comment to Dave and I that he hadn’t seen a bulldog included in a test in quite some time. Dave agreed and I had never seen one, and sure enough the judges threw one in that water test. Blaine and Dave looked at each other and then at me and Blaine said “I should have kept my mouth shut.”
I was gifted Trade in 2021 by my son. He called and said “Dad, I have a puppy for you” and I said “No son, no you don’t.” To which he responded “Yes, yes I do. I picked him out of the litter that my girl Rue just had and he’s got your name on him.” Well, sure enough I drove back to California and came home with a little black ball of fur, sleeping in the backseat all the way. Trade is out of VANG’S PANTHER III MH and CALY’S BLACK PEARL.
As far as the “history” of his name, my favorite movie of all time is Dances With Wolves, and there’s a scene after the buffalo hunt where everyone is gathered around a fire in a teepee telling stories and Costner sees that one of the braves is wearing his cavalry hat. He asked for it back but the brave said that Costner had must have thrown it away and that it was now his. The holy man of the tribe said that the brave must give Costner something of value in return for the hat. The brave gave Costner a very nice knife with a nice sheath. The holy man looked at Costner and said good trade. Thus the registered CRB’S Good Trade ( Chris and Randy Both’s).
When he was of age, Mike Sanders helped me get him started with is formal training, and I remember he failed his first seasoned HRC test, then past the next four in succession, earning his Seasoned title. He then proceeded to fail his first Finished test and passed the next three in a row, failed his fifth and passed his sixth just this month to achieve his Finished title. While doing all of that he went five for five gaining his Senior AKC Title this month as well. (April 2024)
Everyone that sees him is impressed with his drive, handling abilities and good looks. At home he’s a literal couch potato, loves to sit in your lap and is best buddies with our lab Rusty.
I was totally shocked and humbled when I was presented with the Blaine and Judy Hyde Outstanding Retriever of the Year Award, I couldn’t believe we had been regarded so highly. I wish to thank all of the people that nominated us and the committee that chose us as the recipients and everyone that has helped Trade and I along this path, we couldn’t have done it without you.

2024 Winner:

Me Oh Mighty Maya

Hey All,

I want to thank the committee and members in nominating Maya, for the, Blaine and Judy Hyde Outstanding Retriever of the year perpetual trophy.
I believe that breeding and pedigrees are a huge part of having a great dog. Maya is my 5th Labrador Retriever and her health and performance have been something very special. Many people we all, know have amazing dogs due to the breeding itself. Of course you have to put the time into making your dog become an outstanding hunt test, field trial dog.
Maya perhaps could be a dog of a lifetime. I know for sure she is definitely my dog of a lifetime. She has performed very well and has moved up through the ranks.
All of her hunt test failures have been 100% my fault or she would be way further ahead.
I want to accomplish much more with her and hopefully we will get it done by the 2026 season. Will see how far we get in 2025.
