What is a Hunt Test?

A hunt test is an AKC sanctioned event that will give you a chance to achieve the  titles of Junior, Senior or Master Hunters. Each test level has their own set of requirements but the dogs are judged against that level’s standard not the other dogs. The tests are set up to be similar to a hunting situation in which you and your dog are judged on how well they perform in the categories of Marking, Style, Perseverance, and Trainability.

How does this Benefit me and my dog?

Testing is fun and it’s awesome to get those ribbons and titles but also training in the off season can make a huge difference in the quality of your 4-legged hunting partner. The benefits come in a better dog, better relationship and more time spent with your dogs and good people.

What Are the Levels?

Junior: Each test consists of 2 series; one land one water. Each series has two single marks. The dogs must mark each fall, retrieve then deliver to hand.

Senior: Each test typically consists of 2 series; one land, one water. The series will consist of a double mark and a blind retrieve. There must be a Diversion shot or bird, Walk up and Honor.

Master: Each test consists of 3 Series. The Series typically have a triple mark and a blind but one series must contain a double blind. There will be an Honor, Diversion shot or bird, and Walk up. A master dog is considered a well finished dog and a pleasure to hunt with.
